Finding products for your oily skin, that won’t feel heavy or make you even more “greasy”, may be overwhelming. What might work for your favorite beauty influencer or a friend, might not work for you. Thankfully, there are licensed skin professionals to help you figure out what ingredients and formulas work best for all different types of skin.
It’s common for people with oily skin to have enlarged pores or frequent breakouts due to excess sebum. Finding non-comedogenic products that won’t further clog your pores is important. As well as finding products that have exfoliating ingredients to absorb excess oil and exfoliate off dead skin cells. After cleansing your skin is prone to TEWL (trans epidermal water loss) if you don’t end with a good moisturizer – which oily skin still needs – contrary to popular belief! If you do not moisturize oily skin, your skin in return ends up trying to compensate for loss of moisture, by creating my oil which creates a chain reaction of excess sebum, clogged pores and breakouts.
I don’t like to make broad recommendations because everyone’s skin is so unique, so I always recommend consulting with a licensed skin professional if you truly want results. But generally, salicylic acid is a great ingredient for most people with oily skin. It helps kill bacteria, reduce oil production, and slow shedding in the follicle which prevents clogging. I always recommend professional, pharmaceutical-grade products that have had rigorous testing and studies done on them. These products will only be sold through a licensed professional, you won’t find them on Amazon, Ulta, Sephora or any 3rd party retailers. I use and highly recommend a line called GlyMed Plus that has provided great results for myself and others! One of my favorite products containing salicylic acid is the Sal-X Purifying Cleanser. This product has enriched botanicals, Aloe Vera and Green Tea, to help to revive and heal environmentally stressed skin to restore tone and radiance. You want to slowly introduce products with active ingredients to ensure you don’t dry out the skin or strip your barrier.
A mask that I love to use a couple nights a week is the OXYGEN Deep Pore Cleanser, this cleanser works like a deep cleansing masque to thoroughly cleanse and purify congested pores, stimulate healthy cell turnover, and reveal smoother, more radiant skin. You can literally feel it working as it sits on your skin, it’s a little tingling feeling – which can be kind of irritating for some, but I love knowing it’s breaking up all that congestion!
Like mentioned above, oily skin needs moisturizer, too! My favorite moisturizer that is super lightweight is the Daily Repair Mega-Moisture Cream. This product repairs photo-damaged and environmentally stressed skin while fighting against acne causing bacteria.
Rest assured that all of GlyMed Plus products are non-comedogenic, as well many professional, pharmaceutical-grade products. Look no further for your oily skin holy grails!
