I used to be the queen of DIY skin masks and remedies. A lot of the ingredients and chemicals I was using on my face were damaging and stripping my skin, which is not what you want to do when trying to fix any skin problem. A few examples that you do not want to use are lemon juice, coconut oil, witch hazel, or I can’t believe I’m admitting to this — toothpaste. It will only add fuel to the fire and you will end up with an even bigger mess to fix.
If you feel the urge to do some at-home skincare, these are some natural ingredients that you might already have in your kitchen, that are safe to use on the skin.
Papaya
If you are concerned about dull, lackluster skin or blemishes, papaya may help with the appearance of your skin. They are packed full of antioxidants (Vitamin A, C & E), magnesium and potassium. Papaya also consists of an enzyme called papain which promotes healing of the skin and will also enhance the secretion of collagen when used topically for the skin. Use papaya in the form of a mask to reap the benefits of this powerful fruit.
Cucumber
Aside from cucumbers being a great source of hydration for the skin when consumed as food, they are also have strong antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are essential to help protect the skin from oxidative damage caused by free radicals and environmental aggressors like UV and pollution. Cucumbers can also help soothe the skin, reduce puffiness and redness, and help combat signs of aging.
Aloe
If you are dealing with inflammation or dryness, aloe vera plants have an abundance of antioxidants that may help lock in moisture when applied topically. You can try applying alone or mixing it in with the cucumber or papaya.
Although treating yourself at home with these powerful ingredients can give your skin a refreshing rejuvenation, you should be looking for these same ingredients in your skincare products.
A couple of my favorite powerful products are from GlyMed Plus. One of them being the Skin Restoring Fulvic Elixir. Fulvic acid is a critical nutrient and one of the most powerful antioxidants for skin health. It’s antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory — targeting conditions such as aging skin, irritations, and acne.
Another powerful serum from GlyMed Plus is the Cell Protection Serum. This serum strengthens the skin’s barrier. This nourishing formula drenches the skin in humectants, ceramides, and antioxidants. It protects skin cells and combats the aging effects of free radical damage and daily lifestyle imbalances.
Our skin is our largest organ that is up against so much every. single. day. Nourishing your skin with the highest quality products will pay off!
