The most common complaint I get from people when talking about their skin is large pores. If you’re not using the right skincare products and have bad skincare habits, large pores may continue to be a concern for you.
You might be wondering what the cause of blackheads are in the first place. The main cause of large pores is excess oil production. Combine this with additional dirt, makeup or pollutants, then this material gets exposed to air and oxidizes and creates a darkened appearance – which is what we call a blackhead.
These are just a few tips to implement when dealing with large pores.
Wash your face morning and night. You may not think it’s as important to wash your face in the morning – because yes, you may have washed your face last night but if your pillowcases and sheets aren’t washed every day, bacteria could live there and transfer to your skin. And of course, washing your face at night is extremely important to get any makeup, dirt, oil and pollutants off of your skin.
Use products that won’t clog your pores. Be sure to check labels for “non-comedogenic”, which means it is formulated to not clog your pores. Medical or professional products are going to be your best bet when looking for products that won’t clog your pores.
Use alpha hydroxy acids. Glycolic acid and lactic acid are two of the most common alpha hydroxy acids. These ingredients help sweep away dead skin cells and other build-up in the pores on the skin’s surface.
Although most struggle with enlarged pores, they can be tricky to minimize, especially if you don’t know how it’s happening. An advanced skincare routine with healthy skin and lifestyle habits will help to reduce the look of enlarged pores.
